750 Word Essay
George Strait was born on May 18, 1952 in Poteet, Texas. Georgeââ¬â¢s father, John Strait, was a junior high school math teacher and his mother was a homemaker. George was in fourth grade when his mother and father divorced. George grew up with only his brother and their father taking care of them. After high school, George eloped to Mexico with his high school sweetheart. When they got back, their families made them have a small ceremony for family and friends to make it really official. George enlisted and began serving in the army in 1971. While in the military he was stationed in Hawaii for three years. Norma moved to Hawaii to be with George. In 1972 George and Norma had their first child, Jenifer who died in a car accident at the age of 13. George taught himself how to play the guitar while in the army, playing country music from hit artists like Merle Haggard, George Jones, Hank Williams, and Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys. He started a band that only lasted two months. George found out that the commanding officer was auditioning groups to entertain the base. George was hired and didnââ¬â¢t have to wear a uniform and got to wear western style clothing. After being honorably discharged from the army in 1975, Strait went back to college and got a degree in agriculture. During and after college George played in a band for different bars and honkytonks. This band was known as The Ace in the Hole. George joined this band after seeing their advertisement at college. One of the band memberââ¬â¢s grandfather was Pappy Daily who was the manager of George Jones. George began playing for more and more bars and honkytonks. This started his singing career. Don Daily encouraged George and the band to come and record a demo to distribute to record companies. George played at The Prairie Rose (whose owner was Erv Woolsey until he sold it). Erv went back to Nashville and got a job as the promotions head at MCA Records. George went to Nashville and played some songs for promos, but nothing seemed to click. He kept going back and forth from Texas to Nashville with nothing to show for it for the next four years. In 1979 he almost gave up on his dream of becoming a country music singer and signed up for a job working for an outfit in Uvalde, Texas that designed cattle pens. Norma didnââ¬â¢t like George moping around, so she told him to give it another try. He decided to give it one more year. In 1980 George went and talked to Erv Woolsey, and they formed a plan that George would come and record three songs. With the three songs they started shopping for a record deal. Finally, he hit it with MCA Records. When George finally started his career he was considered the hat act, so in the 1990ââ¬â¢s every guy in country music tried the cowboy hat. In early country music, cowboy hats werenââ¬â¢t in high fashion, but with George Strait it became a signature style in country music and that led to George being known as the original hat act. In 1981 he released his first single, ââ¬Å"Unwound. â⬠That same year George and Norma had another child: George Harvey Strait, Jr. (Bubba). George then followed ââ¬Å"Unwoundâ⬠up with number one hits like ââ¬Å"Fool Hearted Memoryâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Ocean Front Propertyâ⬠time and time again. In 1984, George was announced Top Male Vocalist for Academy of Country Music. In 1985, George was announced Male Vocalist of The Year and had the Album of The Year for the Country Music Association (CMA) and Academy of Country Music (ACM). In 1986 he won Male Vocalist of The Year again for the CMAââ¬â¢s. In 1986 and 1987 he was Top Country Artists for Billboards. In 1988 George won Top Male Vocalist again for the ACMââ¬â¢s. George continued to win these awards year after year until 1990. In 1990 George became Entertainer of the Year, the award he wanted most. He won the award again in 2000. In 1992 George starred in the movie Pure Country. In the opening song to the movie, ââ¬Å"Heartland,â⬠his son, Bubba, sings the beginning of the song and the vocals fades into George Sr. singing the rest of the song. Even though the movie wasnââ¬â¢t as big as his music, the soundtrack to the movie was considered his best album ever. He still continues to produce number one hits and records. In 2006, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. George was announced as Artist of the Decade in 2009. George has had the best track record for country music in history. On February 2, 2012 George became a grandfather with his grandson becoming George Harvey Strait, III. George will be ending his touring career after his The Cowboy Rides Away Tour in 2014, but will still be making and recording country music. George Strait has 59 number one hit records and is known as a living legend and the ââ¬Å"King of Country Music. â⬠I choose to do this paper for the final because I thought it was stronger than my 1500 word paper. This paper to me had more meaning and I was interested in it more than the other one. With this paper I have been given the opportunity to send it to George Strait, himself, to have it signed. I think this paper is going to help me out for a contest to win tickets to one of his shows. This paper has more meaning for me since I am such a big fan.

Evaluate a case study using behaviourists approach Essay
Evaluate a case study using behaviourists approach - Essay Example Moreover, cognitive theory works on the assumption that answers are always resulting from deliberate patterning. the theory is best used for learning and teaching purposes as it assumes that perceptions is a change happening in the mind and is caused by mental depiction and relationship stirred by the experiences of an individual (BECK, 2011: 62). This paper uses a different theory from behaviorist theory and related to behavior and provides an intervention strategy. In addition, the paper analyses the pros and cons of using cognitive theory to a behaviorist approach. Cognitive theory is a psychology learning theory which tries to explain how individuals act. It reasons that the acts are from choices which are made from humans who are considered logical beings. The known aspect of this theory is social cognitive theory that lays emphasis in understanding and changing how other individuals behave. It is mostly witnessed in advertising and peer pressure groups. Moreover, the theory forms a basis of treating psychological horrors which are related to the response of an individual. The main focus of the theory is to establish the different cognitive processes in learning. The main process involved in this theory includes scrutinizing, classifying and making theories based on the available information. In my opinion, learning in cognitive theory is based on activities happening within the minds: are not created with other stimuli originating outside the mind. Abstract instructions can be used to assess students because of the similar mental models which are contextual. In using the mental models, students can either be assessed using mind maps, taxonomies or networks to determine their understanding of a learning session or experience. Also they can be asses seducing a social, individualized approach which composes of the use of groups. This involves attaching little values to the instructions to the learning experience as popularly believed all work

Mentoring in Practice Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
Mentoring in Practice - Essay Example Mentoring is the process of supporting and guiding people with the aim of empowering them so that they can better manage and benefit from their own potentials, skills and advance their performance and reach where they want to reach. It is also a perfect tool for empowering and developing personal skills and helping people to advance in their careers. The process of mentoring, established under the principle of communal trust and esteem involves two partners, mentor and mentee, with the same objectives (Mentorset 2008). A mentor guides and helps the mentee to take the right direction towards achieving their careers. Mentors usually are people having the same experiences, having a deep understanding of the issue involved, and hence providing the mentee with the chance to reflect on the career options before him and make progress. Therefore, a mentor helps the mentee to believe in himself and uplift his confidence. Finally, the mentee will be able to understand better and direct his life towards a chosen destination (Ongycp n.d.) The roles and the responsibilities of a mentor are very diverse and complex depending on the question in consideration. The mentor does not decide for the mentee but only assists him to decide. The mentor only guides, facilitates and acts as a role model to the mentee towards where the mentee want to reach (Nakagawa 2012). As time goes, the roles and the responsibilities of the mentor may change depending on the changes in the objectives and needs of the mentee. This is because; each stage reached may require different strategies in order to move successfully to the next stage. However, as the goals, needs and objectives shift, the most important idea to keep in mind is that the mentor always ensures and guarantees the mentee his freedom to develop his own goals (University of Southern Queensland 2014). A mentor is an experienced person who provides guidance to the less experience one by enhancing trust and cultivating positive

Core Values
Marco Aurelien Period 1st Mr. Hill British Lit Beowolf: To leave or not to leave In many ways the ancient Greek and Roman of Beowulf times are intertwined with the modern lives that all of us lead today. These antiquities affect us beyond the obvious government, theatrical, and social practices. The core values of this era mirror and shape our modern core values and morals of today. Pietas ââ¬â loyalty, gravitas ââ¬â seriousness, and dignitas ââ¬â respect are all things that were seen as important at this time period just as they are seen as important in todays world. It is easy to talk about the obvious positive traits that characters have shown in the epic novels or poems we have read but it is more interesting to look at the shadows on grey in a person to show the realism within. The more difficult way of comparing these different eras is to look at the morals and core values that the citizens lived by. Pietas, gravitas, and dignitas, are three general core values that every one in society must show and live by on a daily basis. In Beowulf, he had the task to going up against what seemed to be an undefeatable and despised monster that could ultimately lead to his demise. Most would say that Beowulf should a large amount of bravery and Gravitas to go and venture to Denmark to defeat Grendel. Another vantage point is that in actuality Beowulf lacked Pietas to his nation in leaving to fight a battle that was not his own. Though his father had left him in debt of a favor to King Hrothgar, it was his own choice to follow in his fatherââ¬â¢s footsteps as a warrior. Beowulf was an exemplary example of Dignitas in all aspect of his life, as a role model and giving and commanding respect from everyone. These core values still surround us in modern times everyday and are necessary in order to succeed in life.A student must exhibit all of these things if they are attempting to become a well-rounded scalar and human being. If everyone demonstrates pietas, o r loyalty, towards his or her community and school they will have a strong support system around them allowing them to reach their true potential. Students should have a certain level of gravitas, or seriousness, in order to create a safe and effective learning environment for not only his or herself but for everyone around them. While it is important for students to have pietas and gravitas is even more important that that student had dignitas, or respect, for others and for themselves.Everyone may believe that Beowulf exhibited the core values at all times but it can be proven that he did not. These ancient values are as relevant as possible in the modern day world. We may have been able to do without theater or even a democratic political system but if people began living without pietas, dignitas, and gravitas society would fall apart. The modern citizen must exhibit all of these core values if they expect to be successful and if they do they are eventually going to do well in li fe. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ( Ptsd ) - 2141 Words
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and can affect anyone due to the likelihood of traumatic events and is often a common response (Ehlers and Clark, 1999) . In order to ensure the individual is prescribed relevant medicines and treatments such as counselling or cognitive behavioural therapy ,it is key that we know as much as possible about the event to enable those treating the individual a full view of what they are going through symptom wise ; as well as a predictive measure on how they will respond to relevant treatments. Patterns in treatment and research involved in why certain people develop PTSD are also important as a predictive measure, so that if they were to develop PTSD they are aware of options available to them. If an event that occurs such as rape, assault, being held at knifepoint, often direct experiences with traumatic events, it would be right to assume that these individuals were more likely to experience PTSD or related symptoms. Due to the nature of such experiences, it is very likely that these will be remembered and every day experiences may trigger flashbacks, hallucinations or panic attacks, which can prove detrimental to everyday life. If these incidents are reported, follow up action such as counselling can possibly prevent full blown symptoms which are often very difficult to deal with and can produce enormous amounts of stress and confusion upon the sufferer.
